Radiating an outgoing joy that's inevitably at the heart of her infectious vocal delivery, Irma Thomas has no rivals as the Soul Queen of New Orleans. In the early 1960s under Minit Records she recorded timeless material-"It's Raining," "I Done Got Over It," and "Ruler of My Heart." Thomas then moved to the West Coast where she recorded her biggest seller, "Wish Someone Would Care," and "Time Is On My Side," an original song that became a major hit for The Rolling Stones. After recording for Chess Records in 1967 at the legendary Muscle Shoals studio, Thomas slowed down her career throughout most of the 70s and early 80s to raise her family. The late 1980s saw her returning as strong as ever with a string of outstanding recordings for Rounder Records, two of which received Grammy nominations. Thomas continues to perform internationally today, and her annual New Orleans Jazz Fest performances are legendary.
