A molten musical ensemble
SCHFVILKUS, the molten musical ensemble began the summer of 1996 in Nashville,TN
with members Chris Grainger and Dave Walden getting together with horn players
for informal jam sessions. Out of mutual admiration for open-ended composition
and integrating various genres of music, Chris and Dave sought to take the
idea to the next level. The duo spent that fall working the material that
would eventually end up on the debut recording, "Ambidustrious",
which prompted the Nashville Scene to describe SCHFVILKUS as being one of
"the most unusual and exciting groups to rise out of Nashville in recent
times," and "the perfect blend of street sounds and avant- garde
noise." After some minor delays, Ambidustrious was released independently
by Universal Spread in the spring of 1998, and was later nominated for jazz
recording of the year by the Nashville Music Awards. ~
