New Orleans band plays "feel-good"
dance music
Klezmer, that hybrid musical style originating in the Eastern European
Jewish world centuries ago, seems on the brink of becoming positively trendy.
There's a groundswell of klezmer bands, traditional and experimental, springing
up in the most unlikely locales. It's feel-good music, passionate music,
music whose time has come in the U.S. "Sometimes when you're at a celebration
you just want to go bananas and dance," remarks Glenn Hartman, accordionist
for the New Orleans Klezmer Allstars. "And that's where this music comes
from, that celebratory energy." |
