Finally getting his due -- solo
Jimmie Vaughan has won his fourth Grammy Award, this time for Best Traditional
Blues Album for "Do You Get The Blues?" at the 44th Annual Grammy
Awards. This was Jimmie's 10th Nomination. This award has special meaning
to Jimmie as this is his first win for his own solo work.Jimmie has been
nominated for two W.C. Handy Blues Awards. He has been nominated for Blues
Instrumentalist - Guitar and his new album "Do You Get The Blues? has
been nominated for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year. The Handy Awards
will be presented Thursday, May 23, 2002 at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis,
TN. In addition Jimmie's Drummer, George Rains has been nominated for Blues
Instrumentalist - Drums. Named in honor of W.C. Handy "Father of the
Blues", the awards ceremony traditionally opens the Handy Weekend.
Celebrations include the Blues Symposium with workshops, a Children's Festival,
the Handy Awards Festival with Blues bands performing in the clubs along
Beale Street and a Handy Artists Relief Trust Benefit Concert. ~
