This saxman and singer was destined
to become a musician
Humphrey Davis, Jr. knew from early childhood that music would be
his life. As the son of bassist Stewart Davis, Sr., who performed with such
New Orleans legends as Papa Celestine, Albert French and Danny Barker, Humphrey
received a very formidable introduction into the world of music. Supported
by his father, aunts who played and taught piano, and a grandmother who
was a concert pianist who taught at Tuskegee Institute and played with the
New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra, it seemed only natural that he would
pursue a career in music. Although he plays other instraments, he settled
in as a saxophonist and singer, playing with the likes of Dr. John, Fats
Domino, Aaron and Cyril Neville, Irma Thomas, Johnny Adams, and Jean Knight.
He currently has a CD out entitled Dawn. |
