Evolved musically beyond style
to become a state of being
Dread Zeppelin's renaissance continues with De Jah Voodoo*. De Jah
Voodoo* is more than just the next Dread cd, it heralds a new era for our
beloved Dread Zeppelin. The cd is so good that it confirms my belief that
Dread Zeppelin has evolved musically beyond style to become a state of being.
De Jah Voodoo* is not merely a continuance of the Dread Zeppelin saga; it
is symbolic of the new Dread Zeppelin. This evolution is more than just
change--it is a mystical transfiguration. Even the title suggests supernatural
powers are at work! The Fun Sessions* and Spam Bake* reflect a gradual shift
from the strict Zeppelin-Elvis-Reggae motif of former years. As Dread Zeppelin
explores new musical styles, their music has become notably less self-conscious.
Certainly their musical parentage is still evident but their music seems
to flow from a sense of being rather than parody or self-parody. Like the
religious observance of Voodoo, Dread Zeppelin is a collage, a collection
of cultural and musical influences. Through the years, Dread Zeppelin has
merged varied and different musical styles to achieve a perfectly balanced
sound. Like their musical influences, Led Zeppelin, Elvis and reggae, Dread
Zeppelin has absorbed an entire musical heritage and emerged with a unique
sound. De Jah Voodoo* may prove to be the preeminent Dread Zeppelin work.
I look forward to sharing your thoughts on the latest Dread Magum Opus.
