| David Grisman | |||||
Here is one "Dawg" than can really hunt!!!Throughout his 30-year career, mandolinist David Grisman has been a zealous advocate of acoustic instrumental music. From his beginnings in groups like the Even Dozen Jug Band and Red Allen's Kentuckians, Grisman has charted a path merging traditional and more contemporary instrumental styles, creating a hybrid that has become known as Dawg music (after Grisman's nickname). His list of musical collaborators over the years is a who's-who of acoustic masters, including Stephan Grappelli, Tony Rice, Clarence White, Doc Watson, Richard Greene, and dozens of others. Since becoming a bandleader in the middle seventies, he has mentored a whole generation of hot young pickers, such as Mark O'Connor, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Todd Phillips, and Rob Wasserman, who have gone on to become stars in their own right. |
