| Damon Batiste | |||||
An African-American MusicDamon has a funky background in music which dates
back to the days of the rocking soul legend, Jackie Wilson. While traveling
with his family on the road at the tender age of seven, (Master Showman
experience came early). Brought up in a musical dynasty with the Batiste
Brothers (Wilson's backing band) music surrounded Damon. He can be heard
on recordings with the Batiste Brothers, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Henry
Butler, Leslie Smith, and many others. Damon fuses his african roots with
his african-american roots when he straps on the dejemba drum to accompany
the New Orleans funk sound. In fact, Damon's connection to Africa is growing
quite strong as he is working with important public figures in South Africa
in an effort to have an annual festival bringing together music from the
United States and Africa on one stage. For more on this check out
