| Cornell Dupree & His Bayou Buddies | |||||
Guitarist has had long, successful careerLong a top R&B session player, Cornell Dupree led excellent jazz-oriented sets for Amazing and Kokopelli in the early '90s, showing that he was capable of also playing swinging jazz. Dupree was with King Curtis in 1962 before becoming a studio musician. He has recorded with artists like Harry Belafonte, Joe Cocker, Michael Bolton, Lou Rawls, Roberta Flack, Robert Palmer, Lena Horne, and Mariah Carey -- over 2500 albums as a sideman! He toured with Aretha Franklin (1967-76) and a variety of top pop and
R&B acts and in the early '70s worked with the group Stuff. His 1988
solo album Coast to Coast won a Grammy. Dupree's blues-oriented guitar
style continues to be in demand. ~ Michael Erlewine
