A Stamp on musical heritageAs the daughter of one of the highly acclaimed Neville Brothers, Charmaine is heir to a rich New Orleans musical legacy but is busy putting her own stamp on this musical heritage. She and her band dish out a spicy mix of the best of New Orleans music, from the nastiest of blues to V-8 driven R & B. Add a funky rhythm and some jazzy ballads, and you've got yourself one helluva Cresecent City Gumbo. One reviewer claims, "Neville never sings a dull note. She sneers, laughs, swoops high, giggles, scats, glides, talks, and talks again, playing with her words as if trying to catch the music off guard." Neville and her band are a popular fixture at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and at clubs around New Orleans. Along the way Charmaine and her band have appeared with such notables as Harry Connick, Jr., Bobby McFerrin, Dr. John and Linda Ronstadt. Charmaine leads her now six-piece band with two of New Orleans' most sought after musicians. Saxophonist Reggie Houston is a second generation New Orleans musician who not only plays great sax and percussion but can be counted on for warm, jazzy vocals, a fine comedic sense, and a charismatic stage presence. Keyboardist Amasa Miller moved to New Orleans from New York after hearing the piano playing of legends Professor Longhair, Dr. John, and James Booker. Charmaine says of her music, "I try to cover the whole spectrum and do just everything." When asked what category would you put your music in?" She says, "Good!" album here. |
