A little neo-funk, some neo-brass and Zappa?Trying to put a finger on what genre to label All That is like trying to fully comprehend Einstein's theory or relativity from Webster's pithy definition. They are, in a word, homogenous. But for the sake of just pure fun, let's try: they are neo-funk, neo-brass, a little Frank Zappa (their zaniness), but mostly just "All That." Their album Whop Boom Bam is a testimony to their zaniness as well as their musical courage and originality. With songs like "College Dope Slingaz," "Red Beans," and the group's anthem "Fiasco," to consider, one just might have better luck comprehending Einstein, who dealt in logic. All That is anything but logical, but then again, they are more interesting to the average person than Einstein, and clearly more pleasant to the ear. Besides, they are still among the living. |
