in actionThe Rebirth Brass Band's signature brand of super heavy funk has placed them among New Orleans' top brass bands, and made them the unequivocal, hands-down favorite of the younger generation. Formed in 1983 at the now legendary musician incubator of Joseph S. Clark High School in New Orleans' 6th Ward, the ReBirth has brought to jazz their own modernist vocabulary, adding licks and rhythms absorbed from rap, reggae, avant garde jazz and the pulse of the streets of the city. The result is a successful May-December marriage of traditional jazz numbers to youthful P-Funk grooves - with the precision of a James Brown back beat.
