Merv is a cat that always has
his swerv on
Kid Merv's style of music has been nfluenced by the Olympia Brass
Band. Founded by Harold Dejean and Milton Batiste (he had the honor of being
the youngest player ever asked to join the band). Later Merv formed the
Young Olympians, who have eight years of European tours to date. From playing
the streets of the French Quarter with Tuba Fats and the Chosen Few with
Linda Young, to forming his band the Soul Rebels as well as Deff Generation
(a.k.a. the Young Nevilles), suffice it to say that Kid Merv is one of the
busiest, most versatile players around! It is not uncommon to see Merv playing
a solo show on one end of town and catch him with his band the Soul Rebels
later that evening, then up first thing the next day to play in a jazz funeral
procession. |
